My Home Place Supported Housing is one of our newest SPCRS offerings and is a much-needed support for persons in Dawson Creek who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of becoming homeless. This program is a collaborative endeavour that would not have been possible without the support of BC Housing, our local community, and the City of Dawson Creek. My Home Place welcomed it’s first resident on May 10, 2021, and now has all available suites occupied. Both staff and residents have worked hard to establish a community where people are supported to live independently and have the opportunity to engage in personal development, skills training, and connect to community resources. The provision of safe accommodation and food makes it possible for our residents to dedicate time and energy on various activities that contribute toward their personal, professional, and spiritual growth in ways that may not be possible if they were not living at My Home Place.
We have had some inquiries from our community members about the application process for this program. The selection process is conducted through a Coordinated Access Assessment (CAA) Committee meeting which is open to agencies in the community. Interested applicants are advised to connect with one of our local support agencies so they can receive additional assistance and advocacy during the CAA meetings. Applicants are selected based on their level of vulnerability, with the most vulnerable applicants being given priority consideration. CAA meetings are held on an as-needed basis when we have an available unit.
